What we do
WCLBMA is a lumber and building material trade organization composed of independent lumber retailers and those who supply the industry (lumber and wood product wholesalers, manufacturers, and others seeking to market to this industry). This organization has been in existance in some form since the early 1900's.
Industry: Non-Profit
Things to communicate through the design
1. Identity of association
2. West Coast ( Canada to Mexico)
3. Lumber connection to industry
The target audience
This organization represents 85%+ of the independent lumber dealers in the region, and those who supply them. It is composed of more than 325 member businesses. Most of the member business are long-time, well-established businesses and many have been in business more than 100 years. At the current time, the majority of the retail lumber members are in California.
This industry is concerned about appropriate use of wood products and promotes responsible building materials. We do not like radical environmental groups that do not understand this is a responsible industy. This industy is deeply concerned about the environment but also understands the wood products, in particular, are among the most sustainable, durable and recyclable building products.
We like these fonts, colors and style
We are open on a logo. It can be abstract or more traditional. Using WCLBMA in it is optional. This is a difficult industry to develop a logo for as boards do not easily look distinctive. We are NOT the timber industry so trees are not good per se. We are NOT sawmills so sawblades are not good. Outlines of buildings/homes are already overused in this industry by many suppliers and retailers. Colors in rich browns (redwood) and greens (for enviroronmental concerns) are good. Blues and greens are good for the West Coast.
The lumber & building material industry is among the oldest industries in America. The lumberyard was a key business in the development of communities since colonial days, and most certainly in the developmenrt of the West.
This organization changed its name from "Lumber Association of Califronia & Nevada" several months ago to reflect a borader interest throughout the West Coast region.
