Name On Logo: OSAP. This logo is NOT for our organization but for our annual symposium which is our largest education event for infection prevention in the dental industry.
Our Slogan
Charting a course for infection prevention & safety. Again, this is the tagline for our symposium
What we do
Through its unique community of experts who improve the world through advocacy and education, the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) focuses on ensuring the safe and infection-free delivery of oral healthcare. The conference has 3 educational goals:
a. Navigate current changes and emerging issues in science, technology, guidelines, regulations, policies, practices and products;
b. Explore connections, resources and tools to optimize compliance, and
c. Advance a culture of safety throughout healthcare
Industry: Medical & Dental
Things to communicate through the design
1. Should be complementary to OSAP logo (incorporate of at least one of the same colors, use tints/tones of our PMS colors which are Green - PMS 356 C or C86 M22 Y100 K10 and Blue - PMS Relex Blue C or C97 M78 Y3 K0, could include gray as a neutral if anothe
2. Again, the logo is promoting the organization’s annual symposium – a very important educational event for its members – the symposium logo needs to look like a logo of the industry leader.
3. The meeting is scheduled for June 13-15, 2013 in San Diego, CA so the planning committee is interested in promoting the venue – hence the nautical terms identified in the slogan and educational goals.
The target audience
OSAP’s space is the oral healthcare arena. The target audience for this conference are the seekers of world-class oral healthcare content and expertise.
a. EDUCATORS from dental schools and dental hygiene and assisting programs who teach infection control. They value OSAP for educational content, industry intelligence to stay current. They live in the world of academia, and are isolated. They come to this meeting to meet with their colleagues who are facing the same challenges so they can get new ideas and help with their similar issues. These people are generally overworked, underpaid and are facing increased budgetary challenges.
b. LARGE GROUP DENTAL PRACTICE RISK MANAGERS who value OSAP content, guidance and tools. They value this meeting to obtain information on compliance, best practices, and industry intelligence.
c. DENTAL COMPANIES that produce infection control products like gloves and masks – these companies want to be associated with an organization focusing on this important topic. They value this meeting’s opportunity for networking and to obtain industry intelligence, and exposure to opinion leaders.
d. DENTAL CONSULTANTS who either deliver infection control training to individual dental practices or who work with corporate clients to convey intelligence about the infection control practices in clinical dental settings. The consultants generally operate out of a one-man shop are entrepreneurial, resources and budget conscience. They attend the symposium to obtain educational content, information on emerging issues and opportunities and to network.
All of these targets look to OSAP for world-class industry leadership. The nautical theme of this conference and the tagline "Charting a course for infection prevention & safety" needs to communicate that the organization is "leading" its member on the right course.

The Symposium Logo design needs to be conceptual, simple, and iconographic. We are looking for a bold and clean form. Our design philosophy is less is more with true iconographic logos. The logo needs to look ultra-current, convey symbolism of the nautical theme without being too literal, and again, it needs to complement (not compete) with the OSAP logo. Explore modern/symbolic interpretations of: True north on a compass, bow of ship heading due north, bow heading due north and parting water, a full sail. We are open to seeing other symbols explored for this iconographic logo but the emphasis should be on these examples.
For visual references:
- Picture of bow of boat heading due north.

Google images searches of boat bows include other images of bow heading true north and parting water.
- There are several graphics of true north on a compass if you search Google images. A stylized and minimal approach to these graphics should be explored.
- There are several images of a full sail if you do a Google image search for "spinnaker sail", "spinnaker", "full spinnaker". The form of a full spinnaker sail is very curvilinear and could potential compliment the OSAP logo quite well. Try also exploring an adaptation of the OSAP logo into a sail.
