What we do
The Old Arabi Historic District hosts an annual festival to celebrate the history of sugar in our community. St. Bernard Parish (where Arabi is located) is the site of early sugar plantations, historic processing techniques, and the home of one of the largest Domino's Sugar refineries, which started as the American Sugar Refining Company more than 100 years ago. The Fest, which includes food, music, arts, and more, supports local community projects, as well as promoting our sugar heritage.

The target audience
Adults, both locals and potential tourists, who are interested in food festivals and local history or flair.
We like these fonts, colors and style
Colorful is good, as our local architecture is typically very colorful, but it needs to print well as black & white (or some with a slightly modified B/W version). The name can be directly incorporated into the logo, or it can bean independent element. We would be interested in seeing things like sugar sacks, sugar cane, anything that is historically relevant. We are certainly open to suggestions and will provide as much feedback as often as possible.
Our design will be used on

Additional Info Added Jul 30, 2012
We have uploaded the posters from the last three years, as well as a rough sketch of this year's poster to help give some idea of our style. It's refined (no pun intended) and sophisticated.
Also, while it should say "Old Arabi Sugar Fest", the "Sugar Fest" portion should be more prominently featured than the rest.
With respect to the inclusion of sugarcane, we like the idea, but prefer images that look more natural, like cane in a field, in which the stalks appear lighter green or yellow. There are several nice clipart images for sugarcane via Google search for ideas.
