What we do
ApiGen is a software tool to generate API (Application programming interface) documentation from source codes. It takes the source code of a particular program/library and using specific techniques it is able to describe it a way that programmers understand. This documentation tells a programmer what the program/library does and how can it be used. You can see an example here http://api.nella-project.org/framework/
Industry: Internet

Things to communicate through the design
1. the tool generates documentation from source codes
2. the tool generates documentation from source codes
3. the tool generates documentation from source codes

The target audience
The target audience are IT professionals, programmers.

We like these fonts, colors and style
We want the logo to be simple (maybe minimalistic) and to resemble the purpose of the tool - generation documentation from source codes. There are other products that do the same thing and we want a distinctive logo for our application.

Here are some thoughts that could help you:

- the source code is usualy displayed using a monospaced font

- basic and contrast colors are being used to distinguish particular parts of the code (see an example); that also means that the source code is displayed pretty colorful, so you can use contrast colors in the logo

- there are many character sequences with a special meaning, /** starts a comment, */ ends the comment, expressions starting with an @ in the comment have a special meaning (see an example), all kinds of brackets [, (, {, }, ), ] are being used

- to be in contrast with the colored source codes, we use mainly blue in our default template

Proportions of the logo are up to you, but we need at least a version of it to be usable in square format (favicon, Gravatar).

Our design will be used on
(Web)

Additional Info Added Aug 20, 2011
We have the first 20 logos and would like to give you some kind of general feedback and make the instructions more specific.

We might have set the rules too strict originally. If you feel that to logo should be something more complex and sophisticated, go ahead. We will do our best to comment every logo so you will know how we feel about your work. Just keep in mind that we need to use the logo (or its part) as a favicon/Gravatar (small and square). And please try to make the logo remind what the application does. We have a couple of logos here that could be used almost everywhere...
