Culture as Comfort Logo Design Contest
Name On Logo: Culture as Comfort

What we do
Contest is for logo and, potentially, a book cover design. “Culture as Comfort” is a book but also a concept and the first step in revolutionizing how people understand culture as comfort – NOT as a thing we possess individually but as how we relate to other people. When we are with people who share our culture, we feel comfortable (though we actually don’t FEEL comfort; we just subconsciously take “it” for granted, but we do feel discomfort when we are outside our cultural comfort zones). The design must link culture and comfort, seem modern but also a touch traditional (culture is about traditions!), and appeal both to the under 30 set and corporate executives who might want to hire me to train their employees about seeing their business as a culture (with its comforts and discomforts).
Industry: Education

Things to communicate through the design
1. culture as relational not a thing
2. the feeling of comfort, of fitting
3. exciting new idea; paradigm shift

The target audience
A short version of the book (there is a longer version to come out later) is written in an accessible, narrative style and oriented toward undergraduates in anthropology, psychology and other social sciences. It will be published by a major textbook publisher across many disciplines so your logo will be featured widely. The book is also for educators at all levels (since the book is about how we LEARN culture as children), diversity and corporate trainings, and everyone who needs to “SEE” culture to better understand “it.” So the logo design should be fun, punchy, very appealing to the under 30 student set but also to businesses and it must communicate comfort. The logo will also be featured on the culture as comfort website which I am designing.

We like these fonts, colors and style
I want to generate as many unique ideas as possible, so I do not want to put in too much of my own thinking except to say that I am partial to a darker shade of purple (not pastel -- NYU's shade is good) and aqua blue. I am not married to those ideas, however and welcome a logo that uses colors which you feel communicate "comfort" best.

And I have had the idea of taking advantage of the alliteration in the title to shorten the logo while the full title could be used in a full logo.

Finally, I've thought of this idea -- but certainly do not want to limit designs to it -- of the embrace (hug) as comforting and a nice use of the "C" in both culture and comfort.

I have a potential tagline but not a requirement for the logo:
Discover Your Cultural Comforts but Embrace Your Cultural Discomforts
Obviously it would be better to not repeat the cultural comforts words but play "discover" and "embrace" off of the other three words.
