What we do
The Pioneer is a progressive, local newspaper and comprehensive news website (http://www.bigrapidsnews.com) located in Big Rapids, Michigan, home of Ferris State University.

Things to communicate through the design
1. Tradition of 150-year-old newspaper combined with modernness of new, enhanced website.
2. Integration of printed newspaper and website.
3. Trustworthiness and dependability
The target audience
- - between the ages of 35 and 70
- - men and women who have achieved some level of secondary education
- - suburban
- - annual household income of $60,000 to $90,000
- - politically conservative on social issues
- - large percentage are professionals and office workers — many at Ferris State University — and many others have recently retired from those jobs
- - care deeply about the community
- - have an interest in news and staying informed
- - supportive of local churches, social organizations, non-profits and schools
- - patriotic
We like these fonts, colors and style
Style & Concept:
FONT: A logo set in a serif typeface is preferred. Caslon is being used in the current masthead design.
COLOR: Any color except brown will be considered. The masthead currently being used in print is the traditional black and features a shadow and slight white sheen to give the effect of light being reflected. An alternate version of the print masthead is the same but with a solid red fill. The website currently features a red color scheme.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- - all files must be vector
- - both color and black and white versions are needed
- - logo must work well for use on newsprint
FILES NEEDED:
- - logo for printed newspaper
- - logo for website, possibly including "bigrapidsnews.com"
- - favicons (16x16 pixels and 32x32 pixels)
- - square version of logo for use on social media sites such as Twitter and YouTube
