What we do
LICA is a Watershed Planning and Advisory Council (WPAC), an Airshed Zone and Synergy group with a focus on environmental monitoring (air quality monitoring, water quality testing), environmental management and planning, and community education and outreach.
LICA facilitates all stakeholder's voices when addressing issues concerning the environment in our region.
A WPAC strategically looks for ways to ensure water availability for future generations by striving to achieve Alberta's "Water for Life Strategy". The 3 main goals of a WPAC are:
1. Safe, secure drinking water
2. Healthy aquatic ecosystems
3. Reliable, quality water supplies for a sustainable economy
LICA is the WPAC for the Beaver River Watershed in central Alberta.
An Airshed's role is primarily to monitor air quality. Airsheds implement stakeholder-tailored air monitoring programs to meet regional data and information needs, which includes direct measurement of air quality parameters and air effects on the environment.
As a synergy group, LICA fosters mutually satisfactory outcomes in our communities by providing information, mutual learning, communication, skill development, facilitation and resources to our stakeholders.
