Aaron Paul Low Logo Design Contest
Name On Logo: Aaron Paul Low

What we do
I am a freelance composer who writes original (mostly orchestral/instrumental) music for tv/web advertisements, conferences, and films. Please see my old website at [Login to view URL] for an idea of what I do (but NOT an idea of graphical style).
Industry: Media

Things to communicate through the design
1. Elegant / Classy (as if I write Boutique-style Music)
2. My full name in an interesting font or style that can be used separately if needed
3. If possible, that I am an educated classical composer (i.e. not a guitarist)

The target audience
There are three primary audiences for this logo: 1.) My primary employers are music house producers that need freelance composers (like me) to write for their advertising projects; they are usually musicians. 2.) Film Directors 3.) "Creatives" at advertising companies. They are usually producers or other corporate types that handle the creative side of corporate projects.

We like these fonts, colors and style
I'm amidst a big rebranding and I want this new logo to be at the forefront. I'm not wealthy and I wish I could afford more for a contest, but this is where I am in my career.

I have to stress that I DON'T want this to look like a corporate logo. This is a personal logo for me as a freelance composer. I will eventually have a contest for my company's logo which will have a completely separate client-base.

That said, my old website ( [Login to view URL] ) used a logo on the top right (also attached below) that were my initials, APL. A lot of my clients call me APL and that may be a good start. I made that original logo myself so it pretty much sucks. If you think you can make it into something really cool, give it a shot.

My new website will be using a template which you can see here: [Login to view URL]

I'm not sure I like the neon-turquoise color scheme in that template, so that's not something you should feel obliged to use unless you want to. Keep in mind that if you use color, keep it simple and make sure it's a color I can use for the web template in html hex.

I see this design as being both my name and a design of course. The design itself doesn't need to include anything musical (no notational clip-art or instruments please) but if you have an idea that incorporates something musical, I like subtlety or something hidden like the Piano Forest logo below.

I know it's not quite subtle, but I did like the idea of taking eighth notes and making a sort of bouquet out of them (see *awesome* Microsoft Paint example below) but I'm on the fence on whether that is too feminine. I don't know if it can be done in a cool way and it's just one possibility.

Lastly, I don't really have a slogan or tagline. If you feel like it needs something, I prefer you to just use the words "Music" or "Composer" or the phrase "Music for Picture."

If any of you have feelings on the two designs I posted on here, please leave a comment. If you and your sense of design say that they suck, please say so. I don't have an eye for these things, and it may be good to move on from them if we all decide that they are terrible ideas. I promise to be on the contest's discussion board constantly to discuss.

Our design will be used on
(Web)  (Print Media)

Additional Info Added Jul 24, 2010
Please, no obvious musical engraving icons (five-line staffs, treble clefs, notes). If you want to insert these things SUBTLY that's great and I'd love that, but I don't want my name simply layered on a staff or made out of eighth notes.

I would like to see more variations/improvements on my original logo ( [Login to view URL] ) if anyone can, as it is cool as a logo but completely amateurish in its current form.
