What we do
Kakona is the Taino (Caribbean tribe) word for trinkets of value and objects of worth. The island of Saba has recovered artifacts proving Saba was influenced by visiting tribes from many areas.
In October 2016, we will launch Kakona, a shop with Keepsakes that are Aesthetic, Kreative, Original, Nature-based, Authentic works…striving to blend Saba’s past and present. Key items will be quality crafts created from Saba’s resources—knives from sustainable woods; jewelry from seed pods, soaps from local essential oils, mosaics on local cobbles, carvings and more—each with its own story. Our goal is also to create a logo that will become symbolic for Saba. The dramatic outline of the island with its peak shrouded in a perpetual cloud is easily recognizable to any seafarer or those lucky enough to have experienced this special place. The shop will be a place of intrigue from its luring pathway to various alcoves and armoires. Whether it’s locals living on Saba or abroad, previous or first-time visitors, a Saban kakona will be available to both the on-line and walk-in shopper.

The target audience
We have a large return customer base and locals living abroad that we will target for online sales. Walk-in clients to the shop will be tourists (scuba divers, hikers, sailors and people who enjoy a safe, quiet island, unlike other Caribbean islands) primarily American but also Canadian and Europeans of a higher income bracket that are looking for a quality souvenir. Our draw will be the work of local artists but we will also carry classy, simple jewelry, household items (pillows, wine glasses, etc.) in the $20-$200 range that are symbolic of Saba

The cloud on the highest peak is absolutely symbolic of Saba. If someone wants to add a tagline based on the information we provided, we are open to suggestions.
