River Stone Estate Winery Logo Design Contest
Name On Logo: River Stone Estate Winery

What we do
We are a small winery that focuses on quality, value and friendliness. We love the logo we have, but have had some comments that it is not sophisticated enough. The visitors we have come to the winery are very receptive but in the larger Vancouver market we have heard comments that it is cartoonish. Once people have been to our place and met us, there seem to understand and love the logo, however, we also need to appeal to consumers who have not been able to visit us.

This is a contest to redesign our logo, however, it is ultimately about how the wine bottle label will look and so we are interested in seeing ideas for this as size, spacing and color will effect the final product. I have uploaded our current logo and bottle shots. bottle shots look short and fat to me - not sure why that is.
Industry: Miscellaneous

Things to communicate through the design
1. quality
2. approachability
3. value

The target audience
Would like to continue to appeal to the middle and upper middle class professionals from suburban areas but wonder if we can tweek it a bit to appeal to a more urban crowd. Having said that, Ted and I, are not pretentious and do not care to cater to wine snobs.

We like these fonts, colors and style
What we really like about the logo we have:
1)it reflects our place. We have a river bordering the property that we use for swimming in the summer.
2)the maple leaf which can also been seen as a grape leaf reflects that we are Canadian.
3)there is a sense of movement and again the river which is important in frost drainage for the vineyard and , ofcourse, water
4) it reflects travel which relates to our tagline - savour the journey (of life and there is no better travel companion than a fine bottle of wine)
5)the dog is our much loved winery dog, Charlie.
6)people can see what they want - Tom Sawyerish vs gondola
7)it is kind of whimsical without being too far out there
8)having the boy reflects that we are a family operation
what we don't like
1)might be a bit to simple - this logo is used on wine bottle labels and has to be able to grab the consumer in a long line of bottles
2)he boy could perhaps be a young man for obvious reasons as it is going on a wine bottle.
3)doesn't reflect our land which is a very special knoll with rocky, well drained soils that lend a crispness and minerality to our wines. Have though of adding a watermark of stones.
4)not too sure about the stick - not really Canadian
5)finally it is one dimensional in terms of color and lines
