What we do
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is a non-profit organization that promotes and celebrates the engineering/science partnership that develops new tools and procedures to study the world’s oceans.
One tool we have developed is a long-range autonomous underwater vehicle (LRAUV; see attached photo). We will be building a fleet of these vehicles, which carry robotic microbial laboratories (also under development at MBARI) in the payload section. We want a logo for this fleet that captures the triumvirate of science, engineering, and marine operations.
MiVEGAS stands for Multiple Vehicle EcoGenomic Automated Sampler
Industry: Technology
Things to communicate through the design
1. Cutting-edge science and discovery
2. Automated molecular biology laboratory
3. Speedy analysis/sample collection
The target audience
Oceanographers, scientists, engineers
We like these fonts, colors and style
We like the idea of (but are not wed to) the Trident motif, perhaps with a DNA double-helix as the handle. “Science”, “Engineering”, and “Operations” may or may not be labels on each prong of the trident.
Each vehicle will have its own name, the first being ‘Makai’, a Polynesian word and cardinal direction in the ocean. The logo design should take into account the addition of a vehicle name.
Vehicles have high-visibility orange and yellow bodies; this fact should be taken into account when making color selections for the logo (black goes well with this scheme).
