Historic Routt County Logo Design Contest
Name On Logo: Historic Routt County
Our Slogan
Preserving and promoting the heritage of Routt County communities and rural areas
What we do
Historic Routt County is an award-winning nationally recognized non-profit historic preservation membership organization. HRC is dedicated to preserving and promoting the historic character of Routt County communities and rural areas through programs, projects, and education.

These words describe what HRC is all about:

Local, Sustainable, Craftsmanship, Community, Accessible, Relevant, Authentic, Quality
Industry: Non-Profit

Things to communicate through the design
1. Historic preservation leads to cultural permanence and stability
2. Historic preservation is relevant to both current and future generations
3. Historic preservation defined through the built environment

The target audience
We want to make Historic Routt County relevant to the 21st Century and enable it to "speak" to upcoming generations. It's important that it speaks to current generations as well as to those before us, but we want to specifically convey the notion that historic preservation can be appealing to young people as well.

We like these fonts, colors and style
The logo should exude history, heritage, the built environment, historic icons, community, Routt County (a ski resort town now - no skiing images please), but historically a rural, Western small-town community), etc. The logo should include the name Historic Routt County and/or the initials HRC. Please do not include the exclamation point.

Logo should be contemporary and even abstract and should convey the sense of cultural permanence and stability. We are open to all ideas for a logo.

Some colors that might work well are forest green, navy blue, gold/brown. The logo should be on a white background with the possibility of making it transparent as needed. Fonts used should be clean and classic, not ornate or flowery. Logo needs to print clearly in black and white. Logo needs to work with mailing and return address labels, letterhead, envelopes and digital format for dropping into digitally-generated materials.

Additional Info Added Apr 5, 2010
Routt County is a county in Northwest Colorado. The largest city in Routt County is Steamboat Springs, a resort ski town. The county has a Western, rustic, rural, heritage. Images of ranching, barns, log cabins, schoolhouses, mountains come to mind. I am thinking images that depict the outline of a small, simple building might work well. Maybe with a mountain in the background if you can still maintain a clean, simple design.

We also talked about the idea of the logo being part of a branding iron. Another idea might be to integrate a spur (like from a cowboy boot). Anything goes!

In looking at some of the past contests under the "Construction" category, these contests have some interesting ideas: Amish Brothers Enterprises LLC - interesting ways to inject a human element with building; KO Construction; Fisher Construction. Pan de Vida also has some great images of a rustic-looking structure with an updated, clean look. TBar Construction has some great examples of weaving 2-3 different concepts into the logo in a clean, simple way. The American Wood Council (going on right now) contest has some great ideas too: [Login to view URL] I love the ones with a log cabin type structure in the middle and a circle and a "green" element.

I hope these ideas at least give you a little more direction! Thanks!
