Name On Logo: Earth Day Soccer Classic
Our Slogan
Kick it! with Africa
What we do
Arizona State University’s Global Institute of Sustainability, Green Living magazine, Philips Electric, and One World Futbol have joined together to present a bi-continental, co-ed soccer tournament to coincide with 2014 Earth Day celebrations. The soccer games will take place at ASU’s Tempe campus and at a village in Ghana, Africa.
The event will showcase the work of Philips Electric (they’re installing Community Light Centers in rural Africa to bring solar-powered electricity for health care during the day and solar lights for soccer at night). At the same time, our event will showcase One World Futbol and their “power of play” project (they’re distributing nearly indestructible soccer balls to developing regions around the world via a buy-one-give-one equation).
This tournament is the first to of its kind and is ideally timed before the World Cup taking place in Brazil this summer (US plays Ghana on June 16).

Things to communicate through the design
1. Earth Day (Solar Power)
2. Soccer brings the world together: US partners with Ghana, prior to World Cup match-up
3. Solar-Soccer-Sustainability
The target audience
1. In Arizona, where the logo will be featured prominently on the website and promotional materials, and on game-day t-shirts and banners:
- Soccer players, both students and from the community. Age range - 18-24
- Sustainability Community (ASU students, faculty, staff; businesses; general public). All ages, co-ed, Greater Phoenix residents, all incomes, sustainability-minded.
2. In Ghana Africa, where the logo will be used for a game-day banner and t-shirts
- Soccer players (more likely to be children, more likely to be male)
- Communities (general public)
We like these fonts, colors and style
The logo should have three elements (in no particular order):
1. The words “Earth Day Soccer Classic”
2. A design of a globe/soccer ball that may show the US and Africa
(locate Tempe, AZ and Ghana Africa on the globe with a symbol, like the sun?)
3. The Tagline Kick! It for Africa
- Maximum of 4 colors
- Green and blues are ideal (and a color to represent solar?)
- Logo will be featured on a white background (banners and t-shirts)
- Simple font (sans serif) that stands out
- Design with cross-cultural appeal
Our design will be used on
(Web) (Print Media) (Billboards & Signs) (Mugs & Tshirts)
