Name On Logo: University of Washington
Our Slogan
We were hoping to get someone to help create a tagline in addition to the logo. Some ideas we have for tag lines so far are: “ECOSEL – Bid to Be Heard in Natural Resource Decision Making” “ECOSEL – Selling Ecosystem Services”; “ECOSEL –
What we do
The project is called ECOSEL, a university led auction for the private provision of forest ecosystem services. This project is a University of Washington, School of Forest Resources project that uses a public auction for the public to bid on private forest management options. ECOSEL uses the auction framework to sell investment rights on a variety of management bundles that range from more intensive timber harvesting to other bundle options for managing forests for ecological benefits such as clean water, carbon sequestration, wildlife and other environmental services that are provided by forests. Things to communicate through the design
1. 1. ECOSEL brand recognition as an auction for forest ecosystem services.
2. 2. The focus of the auction is online so an online or web-based feel is important.
3. 3. A marriage, so to speak, between academia, forest management and public engagement.
The target audience
The target audience for our project is a combination that includes a diverse set of stakeholders. First we have other academic institutions that may be interested in our work. Second, and most importantly, we have the auction bidders who will be comprised of 1. individual households who are interested in forest land management, 2. Non-profits that are focused on land conservation, forest management or other environmental issues, 3. Forest industry professionals and businesses.
In addition to our bidder and academic audience we may also have an audience of private forest owners that want to create similar auctions for their forestland and are seeking expertise in auction design and implementation.
We would ideally like a logo that is appealing to a diverse set of actors.
We like these fonts, colors and style
So far the group has decidedly liked images that incorporate a landscape feel, one that includes trees, mountains, streams, etc. The letter S in the middle of ECOSEL could represent a river or stream. The O in the word could also incorporate natural landscapes. Colors have ranged from greens to blues to browns. Since our theme is natural resources we want to stick with natural color schemes. Colors you can find in nature.
Since the ECOSEL project is a synthesis of academia, natural resources, and mathematics/economics it makes sense to have a style that incorporates the sensibilities from each of these arenas. At the same time our audience includes members of the public, non-profit and private sector so we want an image that is appealing to people who are not academics or natural resource managers per se. While economic theory and mathematics form the foundation of much of the work in the project, we are not sure that this is a selling point for a broader public audience.
In terms of fonts or specific styles we are open to the creative process. We want something that will have broad appeal and hopefully strike people and pull them in so that they want to learn more about our program.
