What we do
We manage the process of obtaining county and state authentications (the state level is called an apostille) for documents such as birth certificates and death certificates from New York City that have to be sent to other countries that follow the apostille convention (most common countries that documents are sent to are Russia, European countries, Israel and Mexico). Will occasionally work with authentication of other documents like Power of Attorneys, business documents and copies of ID or education documents. We bring documents to these two government offices in person to expedite the process and ensure that documents don't get lost.
The apostille is basically a cover letter affixed to the document authenticating the signature of the previous agency at the county level. It is used to prevent fake or fraudulent documents.
You can see an image of the apostille by typing in “NY Apostille” into Google images (it is the one with the circular seal in blue).
While we do authentications for other documents like Power of Attorney forms and copies of diplomas, we want to focus on the birth certificate (and the occasional death certificate) due to the ease of processing. They don’t require notarization or any real scrutiny by the county agency since they are official city documents.
Customers refer to the apostille as the apostille seal, or the Secretary of State seal. It is not a notary seal as many customers think.
The ABC of “ABC Authentications” stands for “Apostilles for Birth Certificates” as well as how easy we make getting an apostille

Things to communicate through the design
1. Modern/Simple
2. Trusted/Reliable/Professional
3. Smart/Sophisticated Service
The target audience
Customers come from all over the world, but when dealing with NYC birth certificates, they were all born (or died) in NYC. Emphasis is on the birth certificate clients. Age range is anywhere from 20 to 80, male and female. Looking to deal mainly with college-educated, English-speaking customers since explaining the process can be somewhat complex if English is a second language.
We like these fonts, colors and style
Like when a logo illustration cleverly communicates the business. Possibly looking for something creative that conveys NYC, international aspect, authentication/certification, birth certificate and/or official seal...as long as it would work when used in a smaller situation like letterhead or business cards (or it could be optional).
Fonts: Dislike very traditional frequently used fonts like Times Roman or Arial or flowery or decorative fonts. Like more modern, clean or sophisticated fonts like BlairMdITC or Bank Gothic (but not too modern or out there), interesting fonts like American Typewriter or Rockwell or beautiful and classic-looking fonts like Didot, Goudy or Garamond. Can be any other font I may just not be aware of. Also, I seem to like when letters are spaced apart a little to give it a more modern feel, if it works.
Colors: Not a fan of red, white and blue together. Do not like yellowish colors as type color as they are too hard to read. Royal blue is color of NY seal but I wouldn't want to much of it. Not a big fan of light blue or pink or anything neon-ish.
Would not make ABC in lower case as ABC TV uses that format.

Also, just to clarify a bit, further, what is being authenticated by the different agencies is mainly the SIGNATURE of the previous agency in case that gives you some helpful direction.
Somewhat changed my mind about not liking bright color(s). Might be okay to add a little more brightness...but definitely not a requirement. And definitely no light blues or pinks anywhere and no yellow (gold-ish is okay) as font on white background.
