What we do
Our business is the breeding and, to a lesser extent, the racing of thoroughbred race horses in Kentucky and California. Our goal is to create matings that not only result in commercially successful animals for sale at public auction, but to improve the breed by outcrossing away (the opposite of inbreeding), whenever possible, from overly used bloodlines.
Industry: Sports & Recreation
Things to communicate through the design
1. Integrity – both in our business dealings and in the manner in which our horses are cared for throughout their careers
2. Soundness – both in our business judgment and in the physical characteristics of the horses we produce.
3. Balance – between honoring traditional horsemanship and embracing new technologies and strategies
The target audience
Other horsemen and those who invest in racehorses, typically older high net worth individuals (mostly men).
We like these fonts, colors and style
I’m looking for a simple, elegant, yet powerful logo. In this industry, understatement is the norm. So, I’m not looking for anything whimsical. Designs that have a symbol that can stand alone from the text are preferred. I’d like to stay away from cliché logos like jockey silks, horse heads or running horses. I think I would also like to stay away from anything involving the letter K as the company may act as an umbrella for other ventures or the name may change at some point, but I want the logo to endure. Our racing silks are gold, with a purple sash, green sleeves and a gold and purple quartered cap. The logo does not necessarily have to incorporate these colors though. Initially, the logo will primarily be used for business cards, horse blankets, saddle towels, and printed materials. A couple possible ideas (not requirements) that I had for a symbol were 1) to incorporate an architectural feature from a craftsman bungalow that I own (It has windows that are a vertical rectangle with the upper third divided into 4 smaller panes) or 2) to come up with a graphic representation of an “outcross”. I don’t know what that is, but I do know it’s not a cross with arrows on each end or anything that looks too religious.
