What we do
I am creating a campaign to raise the stature and prominence of Philadelphia - the 5th largest city in the United States. Last year, New York City had 9.2 million international visitors. Philadelphia, which is just a 2 hour drive to the south, got only 613,000 international visitors.
If more visitors would visit Philadelphia, then the local economy would improve... because visitors spend money to stay in hotels. They eat in restaurants, buy things in shops, spend money on transportation, and support the local museums and other attractions. Each time they spend, it supports jobs and generates tax revenue for the city, which can then be applied towards improving the city and making it a better, more attractive place that attracts even more tourists.
When the number of tourists grows, it creates gaps of opportunity in the marketplace that entrepreneurs can take advantage of. This means new businesses, such as new hotels and new travel services, and more jobs and increased tax revenue.
This growth attracts more growth.
My idea is to create a branding campaign to raise the city's image so that more tourists will come here. I am going to get regional businesses here to use the "Philadelphia Proud!" logo on their materials - on their invoices and statements and communications to their far-flung customers around the nation and the world, and also in their packaging, on their products, in their advertising.
I am going to give away the logo for other businesses to use. When people see the logo, perhaps they will feel inclined to go to the PhiladelphiaProud.com website to learn more about Philadelphia.
This website isn't ready yet, but it will have tourism information, information about living and working here, and information about starting a business here.
I envision a day when hundreds, perhaps even thousands of local businesses here are using the Philadelphia Proud logo and promoting Philadelphia as a worthy vacation destination, because business owners will understand the value of what increased tourism can do for this historic city... with the thinking that a rising tide can lift all ships.

Things to communicate through the design
1. Philadelphia is an interesting city to visit.
2. Philadelphia has a "cool factor," and we are proud of it.
3. Philadelphia is prospering and trending up.
The target audience
I need a cool logo that other businesses would be proud to use in their advertising, in their packaging, on their products, in their communications with their customers. It will be on boxes, on packing tape, and probably lots of other places I can't imagine at the moment.
We like these fonts, colors and style
I am always open to ideas on how things should look.
In my mind, I am thinking that an old-fashioned logo style, like the one shown in the first image file below - the one with the arch - would look interesting. Perhaps a design element could be included... such as something that represents the American flag, Philadelphia's City Hall, the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, a groovy-looking Ben Franklin... Should it have a design element, or just fonts? I don't know? These are just some ideas to spark your creativity.
My expectation is that the logo will be widely used and seen by many.
It's got to be something cool that many local businesses here would be proud to use.
The website address: PhiladelphiaProud.com should play a minor roll in the logo (small-ish) and "Philadelphia" probably should be the most prominent thing.
Our design will be used on

I am really open to all kinds of ideas. It could be like a postal stamp. It could be modern. It could look like a sign. It could look like a beer label. It could look like a book cover. It could say "We Are Philadelphia Proud." It could have extra words like "A historic past. A dynamic future." Just presenting some ideas here. You guys are the artists, not me. Looking forward to seeing what is created here.
