From N.Usual to Joe
I really think that the sign up in this page should be request based.
The designer should show their portfolio before signing up here, otherwise everybody in this world who owns a copy of Illustrator and has an internet connection can be called a Graphic Designer.
I have seen a lot of weak designs lately and I think that is not good for the image of this page.Maybe this would keep out the very amateur designers.
I want to know what do you think about this subject.

I don't like this concept, considering I've only been designing for 2 or 3 weeks and had absolutely NO portfolio (or experience really) prior to joining LMW.
I believe you can nominate Designers to be banned from LMW.
Sorry for chiming in,

I agree with you Not Usual.
At the end of the day CHs are here to get a professional design. This is not design school. That being said; my designs have improved dramatically since joining the site but I had expereince prior to joining.
NoQlue - I hear what you are saying but having a portfolio is not hard. If a designer wants to be on this site creating a proprtfolio would not be hard to create. If a designer cannot provide some simple samples they are not ready for this site and therefore should not allowed to join...until they are ready.
The better the designs the happier the CHs...the happier the Chs the more contests and $$$ we can win. |

Thanks for your support Snooksdesign!
I mean what is the whole point of a design contest when it is not made of designers?
Chasing the cheaters and posers have been really frustrating lately.
Why don't we do a quality control for to those who enter rather than to those who need to leave?
It would be a honor for me to compete with more skillful people.
The latest example was the guy that claimed that he used a tutorial as his design... seriously... how could he even mention that? |

at the very least have a simple questionaire filled out by new designers (your thoughts on clipart, fav font, what program do you use, etc) so they have to illustrate some knowledge. Maybe also have new designers on a probationary period with restrictions on dispute voting, etc until they build a legitimate portfolio.
This is slightly unrelated but I also think that all voting should be public (i.e. you cannot cast a dispute vote with giving your reason). That would ensure that all voting is fair and not based on geography, past issues, jealousy, etc.
Just some thoughts to improve the site.
Thanks |
