Company Name: Rivers to Ridges Partnership
Our Slogan:  None
What We Do: The Rivers to Ridges partnership consists of 14 federal, state, and local agencies and non-profits who are dedicated to improving the quality of life of residents in the upper Willamette Valley, Oregon, by working together to protect and enhance the region’s land and water resources and their ecosystem functions and values, and to provide environmental education and compatible outdoor recreation opportunities as outlined in the Rivers to Ridges Metropolitan Regional Parks and Open Space Study – Vision and Strategies document (see attached).

Top Three Things to Communicate Through Our Logo Design:
#1 Conservation, protection, and appreciation of nature
#2 Connection between the community and nearby nature.
#3 Improved livability for the community.

Our Target Audience:
Funding agencies are one target audience so we are looking for easy recognition.
The community living in the area is another target audience where we want to communicate our values.
Our mission is to protect and enhance natural areas around the Eugene area and to provide education and recreation about nature. The partnership includes several public agencies and non-profit organizations providing public services. Thus, our target audience includes people who use and appreciate natural areas.

Thank you for these creative entries. Since we are a large decision-making group, the ranking we've provided today above (July 18) shows the top 10, but not necessarily in that order. Also, we are still evaluating the variations on these top 10 that have been provided. And new submissions today have been added to our top 10.

We are still seeking variations with leaves/plants, wildlife (something as attractive as the heron, but less common in logos) or a human element.

Also, the word Partnership should be strong and more readable than it is in many logos.

Decision-making group suggests:

also adding wetland wildlife other than heron/egret, as that image is so popular in many wetland logos.

Emphasize the word 'Partnership' more than in current designs.

Add human or wildlife element to designs if possible.

Typography from #64 is strong.

Thanks for the new entries #50 - end). Of the new entries, the decion-making group specifically mentioned liking the wildlife (bird) image in numbers 77 and 78 and liking the text to the side in #78. />
Also, the oakleaf in
#51 is popular. Group suggests including other wildlife or plant images into the Rivers & Ridges concept.

Support remains for those ranked with 'elements we like'.

Thanks for the new entries. There is still support for #12, #15, and #27 although #15 and #27 are still too mountainous for our area which has lower gradient lower elevation ridges.

Folks are also interested in seeing some different styles that do not include the obvious river and mountain. For example a design that might integrate some of the iconic plants or wildlife of our area (see an example list in the briefing).

There is a large group of decisionmakers for this contest. Comments recieved still indicate support for several of the raindrop style logos, including #4, #8, #13, #14, and #23.

There is also support for the mountain style logos such as #5, #12, #15, and #38.

There is also support for the styles like #34 and #25.

Several individuals commented that they would like to challenge designers to better integrate the values and ideas stated in the briefing, including the human element. Are there other ideas that integrate nature (wildlife, plants, landscapes) and people (recreation, education). #3 and #10 have human elements (clasping hands). This may be challenging to accomplish while still keeping it simple and bold. Also, many of the designs use the obvious mountain + river style. There may be other subtle connections to make (i.e. an oak leaf landing in water with radiating ripples) or other less direct connection than the mountain + river style.

Just food for thought. Your creativity is inspring and your efforts are very much appreciated by the group.

Thanks to all for continuing to provide creative logos. As food for thought, you might take a look at the current logos of the organizations that make up the Rivers to Ridges Partnership. This might provide some better context for your designs.

See the website http://www.eugene-or.gov/index.aspx?nid=650
and you can click on the links to go to the website for each organization where you can see their logo.

Please do not feel limited to creating a logo just like these but you might find that they help with context.

Clarification: Actually several people commented that they did like the rain drop shape and that it added a lot of information with a simple element.

7/10/12 - We liked the bold simple design of several of the top ranking logos such as #4, #8, and #5. The fonts of #4, #8, #5 and #9 are also attractive. We liked the use of a river shaped like an "R" in #8 and #4 and the image of a leaf with a bunchgrass embedded in #8. We were not sure anything was gained by the rain drop shape however. We also would like to see the words have a more balanced relationship with the image (i.e. many images are thin and the words are much longer). While we definitely like the mountain/river style logo, it would be interesting to see a logo that simply hints at the connection between water/land similar to #9. Thanks to all for your creativity.
