What we do
Pirate du Nord (Pirate of the North) is a micro distillery specializing in hand crafted small batch spirits: Rum, Whisky, White Dog (moonshine). Set up in Canada, the goal is to fight back against the big distilleries who are flooding the market with cheap and low quality spirits by offering a more locally produced and higher quality and hand crafted product: Harking back to the days of Rum-Running, Bootlegging and Prohibition.
Industry: Miscellaneous

Things to communicate through the design
1. Rebellious Spirit
2. Quality Product
3. Distinctive choice

The target audience
Audience is 25-55, 65% male with disposable income, some level of education, interested in good quality spirits that one can sip and enjoy, less of a party drinker and more of a fancy cocktail in an upscale bar drinker. Someone who wants to impress their friends with their taste, someone who wants to be seen drinking the best, someone who is willing to stand up to the man, not afraid of fighting back, and doesn't like being told what to do.

above Are just some examples of things I find neat...

I am a fan of Vintage feel, piracy logos (skull, bones, etc), but don't want it to fall into the "campy or cheesy" side of things. I'm not opposed to colour but I'd want to make sure that it would not rely on colour entirely. I do like golds/yellows/black/reds... The maple leaf/ is a rather important symbol as well, due to the Canadian like content of the product... not that it needs to be prominent.

I don't hate, nor am I tied to, the concept of a coat of arms.

Simple and recognizable is better than too complex.
